start
my computer
right click on - C: drive
first screen - properties - left click (bottom of list)
disk cleanup - (click ok)
second tab at top - tools -
error checking - CHECK NOW - put arrow in both boxes - click start (may require that you reboot your computer to engage this function as some running processes need to be off for this to be effective - just restart computer)
defragmentation - analyze - then defrag

If you have Windows XP, go to START > RUN and type in cmd and hit the enter key. At the prompt, type chkdsk /f and hit enter. You will then be asked to reboot. If that doesn't work, try system mechanic. You can download it at download.com or pick it up at Best Buy or CompUSA.

Norton isn't the best way to fix it. Many have found norton to be a false sense of security. go to www.tweaks.com. they can probably get you though the rough spots.
