This is right in the opening sequence of the movie. It looks like some kind of chart that he has numbers written in, but I can't figure out exactly what it is or it's significance.

It's the days until he can apply to learn how to fly. He is counting down the days, the way someone in prison would-to escape from his family and become a pilot. Of course, later in the film he discovers he is color blind and so that dream gets shot down. But his relationship with his family improves!
Loved the movie! Great assortment of quirky characters!
