I am not familiar with the law as far as non-profits go. Could I legally be entitled to a portion of what the organization earns? I would be responsible for setting up fun raisers and events on the companys behalf, could I write that into the corporation?

I guess I will add a little clarity to my question. I didn't mean skim or illegal receive monies. I meant could it be legal to pay someone a percentage of donations solicited? For example: If there were 12 fund raisers held anually (one per month) and each event raised 10k (120k annually). Could a percentage (3% ($3600) for example) of that legally be enitled to the that person who set up the event (venue, logistics, etc.)?

In most cases non-profits do not pay great wages or at least aren't the most competitive. If a percent of earnings/ funds raised could be paid to "directors of fund raising and events" as incentives and could offset the gap in pay (a commision of sorts). Also, give more incentive and motivation to the directors to come up with innovative ideas and be aggressive.

However, I still am not sure if that is legally possible to do?

Look at the name: non-profit. If the organization earns more than it spends, the money goes into a bank account where it earns interest. Usually, nonprofits struggle to pay the bills. If they make a lot of money, they can pay higher salaries, but those salaries are public information (www.guidestar.org), so if the public sees that you get paid a lot, those donations will dry up.

You can pay yourself a set salary as an Administrative expense, but you can't legally skim off the profits.

you can use the "profits" to pay for your gas, office supplies, and etc but you can't physically put the money in your own pocket. Even if you somehow find a way to steal a couple thousand bucks, if someone found out then you'd be in some deep sh*t and will definitely serve time in jail

You can pay yourself a salary as it is a legitimate expense for a non-profit. As mentioned above, you should be reasonable in your salary level (100% of revenue for example would be unreasonable).
