Your questions, because they are in English, are shown on both the UK and US sites - so many of the respondents will be in the US. This site can also be accessed from anywhere in the world - so English may not be the first language of some answerers.

And you've no right to complain about spelling.
'Its' should have an apostrophe (it's) and what the hell are 'Thohgts'?

Ioki, methinks you Joki

I've many 'thohgts' about the spelling on answers, but at the back of my mind there sits another thought... are some of the questions being put by non-Brits who have a legitimate reason for miss spelling our language. (Hate to think how I would get on in German or Dutch.)
As for the Americans, one day the Spelling Police will pounce and top of the list will not only be the spelling but the pronunciation of Aluminium...........................

It is possible to change settings on YA to UK & Ireland questions only or All English questions. Americans have the choice of US questions only or All English questions. The 'problems' come from those who don't realise that they are looking at All English questions - could be from anywhere in the world so long as they are written in English.
Users who want only UK & Ireland or US should change their settings then these discussions/arguments wouldn't keep on appearing.

(1) not everyone on here is in the United Kingdom (I am not for one) so the spelling for me (Rhode Island, USA) is "color" and not "colour."
(2) some people are just lazy, forgetful, or just misspelling mistakes they make in their questions before they post them (some many just not know the proper spelling of a word and don't think to use the spell checker);
(3) the spell checker on this page just told me that the spelling of the word in the form of "colour" is incorrect;
(4) some people just like to misspell for the purpose of gettin another person's attention and/or they think its funny (cute).

Good Luck!!!

perhaps you should revue your own spell check....and yes spelling is important but if you got the message and it was correct so no big deal ...have had numerous people on here pull me up for my grammar and spelling think it was being used as excuse because they didn't have a answer and as to spell check its also an American site and they are catering to both sides of the void or the Atlantic , sometimes dialect can do this as Scot we sometimes speak a different language so chill

I don't understand why spelling is a problem as long as you can make out what it is supposed to say and 99.9% of the time you can. And besides, there's that study that says it doesn't matter what order the letters are in in the middle of the word, as long as the first and last letters are in the correct place, you can still understand what it says! So stop worrying about it! :)

I'm not in the United Kingdom...

Just so you know, our American teachers mark us wrong if we use British spelling. We aren't going to reverse years of training just to please you.

BTW, it's "can't," "meant," and "thoughts" in both nations.
