I have a thought that Westerners are so much cruel than asian. Especially in some western countries (I will not mention names here) the crime rate is so high. Why? Is there a psychological reason?

(On the other hand it is true that poverty is too high in most of the asian countries since they are developing countries.)

Two things:

a) religion: many asians are buddhist/hindu and these religions promote a very peaceful way of life and caring for others

b) culture: asians must save face and so insulting people or getting caught commiting a crime is a huge loss of face, therefore it is not very common.

I think that you're kind of grouping all ethnicities and races under umbrellas....I am Chinese American and I do not find any particular race "cruel"....Westerners are "cruel" in what sense? There are also alot of ways that Asians from overseas could be considered "cruel" as well. There are flaws BUT, take a look at the dynamics of some of the Eastern countries - specifically China.

One large factor that stands out in my opinion re: the East is the lack of regard or lower placed value on a human life and such. Even if you look at things like China and all the little girls that were given up for adoption or killed because they were girls because their ignorant parents want boys....how is that right? Yes, that is outlawed in general but things like that still happen in little villages and towns. Do you not consider that, "cruel"?

Even with the Three Gorges Dam being built in China...look at all the people that are going to be displaced because of it. Yes, the overall benefit will be good in the long run for the economic status of the country but at the current status, it will completely inundate 2 cities, 11 counties, 140 towns, 326 townships, and 1351 villages. not much is being done either to help the people that will be made homeless and driven out of their homes. Don't you think that might be a little "cruel"?

Please learn your facts before you spout them out and learn ALL of the factors that you are talking about before you stereotype re: different nations....you come across as very ignorant yourself.

The crime rate has no connection with how 'cruel' an individual is or not. Apparently all primates (including mankind) are capable of cruelty, that is to knowingly and intentionally cause physical or mental pain to others.
The causes of crime are many but can definitely include poverty and despair as social factors. Perhaps, there are a number of crimes that go unreported in the developing world for fear of driving away tourism and investment.
As I said, the overall crime rate and an individual's capacity to inflict cruelty are not directly related. There is a danger, however, in ignoring the faults of the society you are in and blaming outsiders for the world's problems.

Asians not cruel?????? Are you KIDDING me????????????? Have you any idea how (in general) animals are treated in Asian countries??????? Many people around the world regard this as a barometer of empathy in a given society. By THIS standard, at least, Asians clearly do NOT rank very highly...

It doesn't matter if it's cruelty to humans OR animals - cruelty is CRUELTY - periodfullstop. As an interesting aside, were you aware that psychopaths very often practice torturing and killing animals before they feel that they are ready to ply their 'trade' on HUMAN VICTIMS?

People who are cruel to humans are ALWAYS cruel to animals also: ergo, CRUELTY is CRUELTY in all its forms. So much for your theory...the point is that you can't make generalisations like that about people on the basis of race, ethnic origin, geographic location...religion, creed... - that's called 'STEREOTYPING' and it usually ends up blowing up in your face.

I'll just put in my guess. You're actually talking about the crime rate rather than being cruel. Assuming your statement to be true (and you haven't shown that it is) We have more split families so less healthy role models for our children, but it could also be less opprtunity for Asians to commit violence. But I can't say for sure, it's not something I ever tried to study.

LMAO ... look in a history book and study up on prisoners abuse, war abuse of both combatants and non-combatants, history of torture in Japan, China, Indonesia, and Muslim countries.

Societal crime rates just barely scratch the surface of measuring cruelty.

As to the poverty rates, look at India, Pakistan, Philippines (basically anyplace in south Asia), you are looking at REAL poverty, not RELATIVE poverty as in the USA. In Asia poverty is systemic, multi-generational and rampant.

Asians are way more cruel than Westerners. Look at WW II, Japanese soldiers used to bury American POW's in bomb shelters and burn them to death. When I was stationed in Korea I saw the dogs that they eat get beat to death so the meat stayed tender. We just slit our animals throats.

Its not the person, its how they are brough up...if a westerner is brough up from a young age in say asia he will most likely addapt to his\her soundings, there additudes, vaules and imoprtantly their beliefs will change. If an asian is brought up in a drug filled gang owned steets, most like that person will grow up like the people do surounding them, people act different in different situations
