I just had a random thought the other day, if we percept things by time and light, and it takes time for light to travel, couldn't everything that we see beyond our solar system not be there at the present time? Like when we look up and see a star, is it still there, or is it just a false perception? Tell me what you think.

ill tell you what i KNOW. you are absolutly right. alpha centauri (the closest star besides the sun) is 4.39 light years away. other stars are much furthar and still visible. so any star you pick out as your looking at it your seeing what it looked like 4-500 yrs ago. it may not even be there anymore but your still seeing the light still traveling to you

ya it might not be there at the present time... it takes light years to travel to some stars and other places in the universe. what we see now is the light that has reached us from those stars. if something is lets say 10 light years away.. what we may be seeing is not the star as it presently is.

Perception cannot be considered in terms of truth for the fact that we sense is based upon our ability. There is no wrong way to see something so long as you can take in what is nessecary from that experience. Yet, you are correct in the sense, that some stars indeed are perished long before their light can tell us that they ever existed.

Indeed! All we know is that the sun was there 8 minutes ago. It may have exploded in the past 8 minutes, and we wouldn't have a clue! Scary, huh?

Simple, get those high payee salary Elite experts do the job for us by building a damn freaking ship and warp there to see it, is it real? :) Otherwise those elite experts talk talk only and every month feed them so farting fat like a pig. Lol! talk talk only also can be honoured haha..

It has to be. Our tools of perception (eyes, ears and brain) aren't equipped with filters that can mask reality.
