LG 52x32x52 is a CD burner only and will read 52xnormal speed and will burn 32x normal speed. To over simplify it. A CD that is 32 minutes long can be burned in 1 minute.
DVD burners use -R, +R, -RW, +RW and some can use either.
a -R burner can only use -R or -RW DVD's Same with the +R,
R's can be burned once and that's it. RW's can be burned to, erased and reburned.
Most dvd's Movies are 6-8 Gigs. but blank dvd's are 4.7Gigs so the movie has to be compressed to fit and that's when freezing and other problems occer.
Dual Layer Burners will burn both - and + Media, both CD's & Dvd's and if you buy dual layed Blank DVD's they will hold 8.5 Gigs so compression will be less or non exsistant. and 16x normal speed burning. Hope that helps

The best drive i'd recomend is " Liton 20x DVD RAM drive " or
" SONY 16x DVD RAM drive ",
These are compatible with almost all new formats, and are dependable. 20x and 16x indicate the speed of the drive. The max speed available is 20x, while 16x is easily available.

[ DVD RAM is an advanced feature than DVD +RW ]

This should fullfill your quest for an optical drive... Enjoy.

They refer to read/write speeds ... just tech jargon ... the higher the better.

Here are 2 models of LG brand that I personally use & can recommend (they do it all) :
