During the age of expansion, which is generally concidered from 1600-1900, India was not going to be left alone. The British presented themselves as a powerful military alies to the Mughal Empire and by the mid 1700's the Munghals reighn fell apart. If not for the British, India would have been conquered by the Ottemans, the the Chinese, or the Russians. Given the choices, the British would have been my pick to be governed under.
