It is two things: A curve in hair growth due to the orientation of the pores on your head or it is a block of salt left for cows to increase their sodium intake and to make them thursty.

Most hair cowlicks can come out by "training" the hair through brushing and from the weigth of longer hair.

It's just the way your hair grows. The same reason you have finger prints.
