Every time I try to run the ScanDisk tool I get the following message.
"ScanDisk has started 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable ScanDisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning."
The same thing happens when I try to defrag the C Drive except I don't get the message and the defrag. doesn't get more than 5% done and it starts over again and again making no progress, even after running all night long.
There are no other programs running so I don't know what to do. I tried leaving the ScanDisk on, but gave up after nine hours and still, no progress. If anyone knows how to fix this problem. Please let me know! Thanks for your help.

Go to MSconfig under Start --> Run. Follow the tabs to Services and Startup. I reccomend to DISABLE ALL ITEMS UNDER STARTUP. Then reboot your system. Then start ScanDisk.

Scandisk used to be a dos software to confirm the state of a disk force. CHKDSK changed it approximately the time of XP. You must run it from a dos window. Disk Clean up does a seem on the disk to take away temp documents quite often. It does now not confirm dangerous sectors.

Depending on your operating system sounds like your operating system is corrupt. Are you running Norton internet security?
