I think you should get your facts straight
Turkey invaded Cyprus.

'In 1963, the Turkish ministers withdrew from the Cabinet and the Turkish civil servants ceased attending their offices while Turkey threatened to invade Cyprus. Ever since then, the aim of the Turkish Cypriot leadership, acting on instructions from the Turkish Government, has been the partitioning of Cyprus and annexation by Turkey.

In July 1974, a coup is staged in Cyprus by the Military junta, then in power in Athens, for the overthrow of President Makarios. On 20 July 1974, Turkey launched an invasion with 40,000 troops against defenseless Cyprus. Since 1974, 37% of the island is under Turkish military occupation and 200,000 Greek Cypriots, 40% of the total Greek Cypriot population, were forced to leave their homes in the occupied area and were turned into refugees. The invasion of Turkey and the occupation of 37% of the island's territory as well as the continuing violation of the fundamental human rights of the people of Cyprus have been condemned by international bodies, such as the UN General Assembly, the Non-aligned Movement, the Commonwealth and the Council of Europe.'

Now, what makes you think that Greeks started the war in Cyprus, especially considering that Greece was under dictatorship at the time? Turkey was trying to claim Cyprus for centuries, first chance they got they invaded with the excuse that they were trying to help. Whom? I honestly don't know.

And what is the help WE got? Our politicians being called names and facing completely unappropriated behavior from the pseudo state's "president", being blamed because we were not willing to give up MORE to the Turkish by voting NO to the Anaan plan a couple of years back, having to hear all the time that WE don't cooperate in order to find a solution to the Cyprus problem when all the solutions proposed don't take into consideration the fact that we are the ones who suffered war, we are the ones who lost relatives and had to leave our houses behind. I'm not blaming the Turkish Cypriots here because they were also victims of this but how can a solution occur when 120 000 Turkish colonists were brought to the occupied part after the 1974 invasion and we must think about their feelings and their rights?

And read about other people who died after 1974

Tasos Isaac
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tassos_Isaac
He was murdered by a mob of Grey Wolves in the UN buffer zone in Cyprus in 1996

Solomos Solomou
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomos_Solomou
He was shot while trying to remove a Turkish flag from its mast, in the aftermath of the funeral of his cousin Tassos Isaac, who was also killed by Grey Wolves[1] a few days earlier.

And may I also point out that his killers were recognised as Kenan Akin and Erdal Haciali Emanet, members of the unrecognised TRNC administration (the first Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the second Chief of Special Forces).
WHAT KIND OF GOVERNMENT IS THAT? WHERE ARE WE? IN WHICH CENTURY?

Petros Kakoullis
http://www.btinternet.com/~argyros.argyrou/Kakoulli.htm
Kakoullis (58) had gone to Achna area, near the Turkish cease-fire line, together with his son-in-law to collect snails.

and it's not just them but I don't like to talk without facts and I can't find any links describing how the others were murdered so just read the letter from the then president of Cyprus Glafkos Clerides to the then "president" of the pseudostate Rauf Denktash

Cyprus from the ancient times was inhabited by Greeks and other Asian tribes. In Cyprus the Greek culture spread and since then till 15/7/1974 the population of the island was 90% Greeks, 10% Cyprus-Turkish but after the Turkish invasion(15/7/1974) the percentage has changed. The turks now have the half northern part of Cyprus and the other half is an independence European country inhabited by Greek-Cyprus.

Greeks was the first to inhabit Cyprus in ancient times. Since then, many nations passed and they were kicked out of the island (Phoenicians, Persians, Saracens, Venetians, Franks, Crusaders, Turks and the British).

The turks invaded Cyprus first time in 1571. They occupied Cyprus for some years and then they sold Cyprus to the British Empire.

The Greeks of Cyprus fought against the British Empire from 1955 until 1959 and in 1960 Cyprus became an independent republic.

In 1960 Cyprus had 80% Greeks and 18 % turks. Turkey claim that the turkish minority was under threat and invaded Cyprus in 1974. Turkey occupies since then 40% of Cyprus.

I hope you understand now why the Greeks of Cyprus don't like turks. They came and took our land by force twice and they are still here.

According to U.N.: There has been an illegal military invasion in Cyprus in 1974. Due to this invasion 200000 refugees came to the South. Turkey has commited several war crimes and has brought to Cyprus 180000 settlers. According to U.N. all turkish troops have to leave the island. For these reasons the so called TRNC is and wont be recognized by any other state (except Turkey). According the International Court: Turkey illegally occupies Greek Cypriots properties and therefore has paid and will pay millions Euros to the owners. According to E.U: Turkey has to choose between entering E.U. (after becoming a European country) or remaining in the island. So, who do you believe? Turkish propaganda or these FACTS. And dont tell me the usuall story of Turks being muslims so Americans and Europeans hate them!

If you're talking about ancient history, there were likely issues regarding trade in the Mediterranean. Also, the Hittites (not the Turks) had imperialism issues. Each generation they tried to conquer more and more land. From about 1800 - 1200 they were one of 5 world powers at the time, and with the death of Tutankhamen came close to world domination.

Each thought they had the right to own all of it as it is an island part way between the two countries and they didn't like the idea of splitting it.
