I really hope all goes well with your pregnancy but it is very common to miscarry up to 12 weeks, and i really think you should wait that long until you start buying too much.

After that, then yes its a good idea to get what you need little by little. Its good to have it all ready by 8 months - the baby might come early or you might feel very tired!

Don't over-buy. Remember you have to store the stuff! And be sensible - babies really dont need every gadget under the sun, and after the first few weeks they will need more things as they grow out of their clothes and need toys etc.

Its a thrilling time!

I played it cool and didn't start buying things until I was 6 months (right after Christmas for me), although I shopped and compared features/prices/customer reviews from about 3 months so I would be ready. It wasn't as hard to resist buying things as I thought it would be since I allowed myself to "window shop" as much as I wanted.

This was right after Christmas because I knew my family would give us a bunch of stuff at Christmas. We bought big things, like the crib, when great deals presented themselves (got a great crib with mattress from a coworker of my husband for a fraction of what it cost new).

Don't buy a lot of clothes because that's a favorite gift from friends and relatives. We don't have large families and very few friends live withing driving distance of us, but we still got inundated with clothes (almost everyone buys 0-3 month size too, so I had to exchange most of it for larger sizes). If you see an outfit that just screams "I'm the one!" for his/her first pictures or his trip home from the hospital then by all means buy it, but trust me, if your family is at all typical you won't need to buy much in the way of clothes.

Most fun you can have without ending up buying something someone else wanted to buy for you is to set up your registry. You get all the fun of picking out the stuff you want, and you usually get a discount on the stuff that's left over after the baby is born.

I didn't start seriously shopping until after Christmas because I didn't have a baby shower. Most women would do well to wait until after their shower. After the shower buy all the necessities (the things you need right away in the first week or so) so you have them and leave the rest on the registry for late shoppers and to be picked up later at the discount because you can afford to wait if it isn't needed right away (for example, a high chair).

You can buy things whenever you want to, but you might want to bear in mind that at this stage of your pregnancy, you are still very vulnerable to miscarriage, and so wait until you are a bit further along in your pregnancy to start buying things.
I'm 6 months pregnant and am just starting to buy things.

Old Wives tale swarn you against shopping too soon because you could miscarry as late as 9 months, it like jinxing yourself. But everyone told me to start at about 5 or 6 months so relax, enjoy being pregnant and have all the fun you wnat whenever you think its appropriate( like making and painting the room n stuff but I wouldnt advise on buying clothes or shoes or anything like that yet

I waited till i was 7 months as i had a stillborn at 6 months previously. Everyone is different so if you want to start soon wait till after the first trimester.

I would wait until your dating scan. This will let you know that everything is ok.
I am 24 weeks and still not bought anything yet. I am Chinese and all my family are very supertitious about buying things too early. I think its very wise not to buy too much early on but at the end of the day its up to you!
Good luck

i think everyone gets crazy excited about getting ready for the new baby!!!!!!! i just had to buy something when i found out. i got him a mommy bear when i was like 5 or 6 weeks along. i got the crib and a rocking chair when i was like 3 months. mostly i waited until they verifed it was a boy. i must admit it was hard, i went thru the baby section anytime i was in a store looking at clothes, blankets, toys, everything. it definately wouldnt hurt to get started on diapers and things like that.

congrats on the new baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a couple of small things early on because I could not help myself, but I tried to wait until the firs trimester had passed. Starting early is a good idea as setting up can be expensive.

Honey, it's whenever you are ready! I bought my first outfit for my son when I was 6 weeks along, the day after the doctor confirmed! Go out, have fun and don't get too emotional over some of those cute little outfits that they have for babies these days!
