If students expect to go into jobs which will put no pressure on them, then sure, why put pressure of exams on them beforehand, because it's unrelated to what they will do.

But do you imagine any job which isn't going to put pressure on you?

So if you can say "don't give me exams, it puts too much pressure on me", you should also say "don't give me a job, it puts too much pressure on me", which would be silly.

That's it. Jobs mean pressure, and jobs are okay. Exams mean pressure, so exams are okay too.

Speaking as a college professor who teaches a wide variety of classes, I can honestly say that there's a purpose to exams and testing of student's knowledge.

However, I don't solely rely on test results when it comes to calculating ones final grade. Some students are good test takers, while others are not. So I mix exams, in-class assignments, homeworks, and discussions to get a better overall sense of that student's true level of mastery with the material.

But there are plenty of professors out there who rely on tests alone, which is the way public schools are measured as well

In public schools, a student's test scores is what determines whether a school is doing "well" or not, and whether a student can advance to the next grade.

But in college, we have more flexibility to grade students as we see fit. So I've chosen to mix and match to get the best sense of how a student is truly performing.

Why, Bobby, because you would fail? You seem to have a little problem with basic ENGLISH. No, I think it is right to give examinations in school. How else would a teacher know how well the students are doing?

Sure...why not stop measuring the effectiveness of your education?

As a matter of fact, why not just give out diplomas to newborns?

EDIT: Notice that the people in favor of this idea can barely speak english. I think that's rather telling.

um i think it shouldnt be worth as much like yeah it should be there but there should be other things that go on through out the year too...cuz there are people who are good with internals but some who are better in exams so it needs to be fair on all individuals.
