I know he was known for being great with six-shooters, but I'd also like to know if this is true as the movies depict.

For instance, in the movie "Tombstone," he speaks to archrival in the language of Latin. That's the kind of education I'm talking about. Not where he got his first name...but thanks for the answer!!

Yes, he really was a dentist but his gambling addiction hurt his career and he was forced to become a full time gambler. He earned the title of doctor from the Philadelphia College of Dental Surgery (later the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine) but had to relocate to the west when he contracted TB as the climate in the West was better for his condition.

Yes, John "Doc" Holliday was recieved a classical education at
Valdosta Institute, Georgia. Studies included rhetoric, grammar,
history, mathematics, and languages. Languages included Latin,
French, and ancient Greek.
Later he studied at the Pennsylvania University of Dental Surgery,
and earned his Doctorate of Dentistry.

Yes he a degree in dental surgery in what is now know as The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.He graduated in 1872.

Doc had 2 yrs of dental college and interned for two more yrs befors going west and setting up practice. He contracted tuberculosis shortly after and quit , turning to gambling and gunfights

I think he got his title "Doc" from practicing dentistry. In his time in the old west, dentistry mostly consisted of pulling teeth. The training could have been minimal for the time and certainly minimal by today's standards.
