It's a song that anyone besides me could answer. I heard it on a mix station and all I know is it's from the mid 90s and I wanna say either 94 or 95. There are empahsis on certain "Do" during the chorus and pauses where I put commas. It was very laid back and with a basic beat. Would be classified as pop/rock I think. Enigma maybe? I know this is a needle in a haystack based on my info, but I never liked the song until now. Will be greatly appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction. I should know this song and need to be slapped because I don't. I know it was a popular song...

Could it be Natalie Merchant "Carnival"

That's not the "chorus" but there is a big part like that at the end of the song.

I've walked these streets
a virtual stage
it seemed to me
make up on their faces
actors took their
places next to me

I've walked these streets
in a carnival
of sights to see
all the cheap thrill seekers
the vendors and the dealers
they crowded around me

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have seen?

I've walked these streets
in a spectacle of wealth and poverty
in the diamond markets
the scarlet welcome carpet
that they just rolled out for me

I've walked these streets
in the mad house asylum
they can be
where a wild eyed misfit prophet
on a traffic island stopped
and he raved of saving me

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have seen?

have I been wrong
have I been wise
to shut my eyes
and play along
hypnotized
paralyzed
by what my eyes have found
by what my eyes have seen
what they have seen?

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have found
in that great street carnival
in that carnival?

Uh, gee, it sounds like Suite: Judy Blue EYes from Crosby, Stills, and Nash... then again, do do do do do ain't much to go on...

Oh, 90's.. ok... yeah, the person who said Suzanne Vega sounds right...
SOme of the lyrics:
I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee

And he fills it
Only halfway
And before
I even argue

And she stops periodically and casually sings the doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo...

Possibly mark wahlbergs remake of a Lou Reed song, "Wild Side"

Or it could be Paula Cole "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone'
