I found a great deal on some formula, but it expires Feb. 1, 2007. Would it hurt my baby if I use it a little after its expiration date? It is the powder formula. Thanks!!

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

ALL formula manufacturer's have provisions with anyone who carries their product that they cover cost of replacing expired formula. (meaning if the store gives them back 400 cases the formula companies HAVE to give the store back either 400 cases of formula or financially compensate them.

The reason this is in place is to keep this kind of thing from happening!!

Babies fed expired formula will in all likelyhood become ill..no...will become very ill.

No store can refuse to take back expired formula and replace it with far dated formula. (stuff that's not going to go bad next month type of thing)

Do not use it after the expiration date. No bargain is worth risking your baby's health for. There is a reason the store is giving you such a "great deal". They cannot sell the formula after the expiraton date. The reason they can't sell it is that they can no longer guarantee it. Even if it doesn't make your baby sick it probably will lose some of its nutritional value at which point it is "useless" to your baby. You'll never know if its fine or not, but don't take that risk.

I dont see the big deal if its the powdered stuff, legally everyhing has to have an expirery date even if the stuff would last for months longer. If it was sealed all good and doesnt look like it was tampered with why not. You got a good deal on it because it was expiring.

Use it quickly! If you use formula past it's expiration, it looses the vitamin and mineral content, and the proteins begin to break down. So it won't hurt your baby, but after a while it won't help either.

I would throw them out if they are expired and i wouldn't feed formula to a dog as it will give it diarrhea

I would personally use it as long as it doesn't go too far past the expiration date. If in doubt, taste it first to make sure it hasn't gone bad.

Yes, if you use it, use it before the expiration date.

This is your child you're talking about. Why would you not give her/her the absolute best?

Is saving a couple of pennies worth the risk of endangering your child?

Yes.

Yes, it could be. Don't take chances like this with your little one; not worth it "just in case".
