Not me. I've had my young sister-in-law admit to me her dumbness for getting pregnant for the 3rd time and smoking crack durinng and w/o a baby daddy to help her out. She's a loser.

I think everyone has areas they are dumb in; I don't have a problem admitting I'm dumb in the area of mechanical intelligence. I can't fix anything or put things together well unless it is very, very easy (like 2 or 3 steps). In fact when I took an aptitude test in high school the results said I could go into any career area except mechanics, so that's pretty much been confirmed for me!

I was pretty smart academically, but most mechanics would think I'm not smart at all...I don't think there is anyone that is dumb completely but they may have weak areas, like math or mechanical or writing, etc. I think it's the rare person that is really smart in every single area of learning.

I think most people start off thinking they are smart--until someone tells them otherwise. It may be the teacher making an ill-thought out comment with regards to an answer in class or on a test paper, or the other kids in the class who are more aggressive (i.e. acting like bullies) and want to humiliate you, put you down, and in the process make them think they look better than everybody else. Even worse are the parents who burst out with a comment like "How stupid can you be to..." without realizing the far-reaching implications of what it means.

On the basic issues I think I'm as smart as anyone else with my background and training. I know I'm not on the same level as my husband who's a well-qualified engineer, but science/math wasn't heavily stressed in my education. On that note, he can't match me in the humanities where all training and job experience has been.

As for street smarts--again it has to do with your background. I grew up in a rural setting and had no knowledge of street gangs, etc. until I grew up and moved to a city. Your "backyard" will teach you what you need to survive there. For example, I know from living in the country you don't casually cut through a neighbor's pasture if the bull is out of the barn! Someone else would think me dumb if I walked an inner-city's streets in the early hours of the morning.

In my time when educators used the word "gifted" they only meant those children who were "exceptionally" bright or talented in a particular field. They acted like we were supposed to look at these classmates with awe because they were above average in intelligence. The actual fact was, they had a knack or talent for something--whether it was music or math. Today we know that the gifted program in many schools falls under the auspices of Special Education. I think it's interesting that today's educators have realized that greatness is achieved by one's ability to excel in their own capability. You may have a child prodigy playing the piano, but the child who is developmentally disabled who learns how to do his homework on a computer using a specially crafted program is just as gifted in his own way.

I think that from time to time everyone says "How dumb of me!" I will answer this saying that yes, from time to time I think I am dumb. There are things that I knew in the back of my mind I should of done but didn't, and I have made choices without thinking, WAY TO OFTEN, But that question I think is really hard for most to admit for lack of self confidence. They think that if they admit that they are dumb than everyone else will.

No no one shouldn't think they are dumb because it degrades who they are and their intelligence. people can be "smart" if they want themselves to be but most people haven't refined their "smartness" people claim they are smart because they know more about one thing then another so that makes them smart. So no one is necessarily smart but knows more things then the person next to them so yes everyone is smart. BTW i know nothing about psychology living life is psychology and sociolgy enough.
