Transmission fluid temperature on my RV runs around 175 F. When in town with stop & go driving during summer, it sometimes goes to 250 F. That is approaching the danger zone. Top temperature without ruining the fluid is 275 F. If temps go above 250 F, I suggest pulling off and running engine at fast idle to cool transmission down.

My wager is that the POP you heard became a head gasket blowing out. in case you have a 4 cylinder vehicle, 2 cylinders misplaced compression into one yet another. so that then you definately had 0.5 the skill. in spite of in case you have a 6 cylinder, you purely had 4 of your 6 cylinders working, so which you had way much less skill. gasoline became nonetheless flowing to the lifeless cylinders because of the fact the valves have been nonetheless commencing and the pistons have been nonetheless transferring, yet they weren't firing because of the fact the compression wasn't adequate to fireside. So your gasoline intake went way up. the press click click you heard wasn't the transmission, it became sounds linked with pistons seizing in a cylinder the place coolant is washing away the lubrication. The overheating is because of the coolant flowing into the lifeless cylinders and out the tailpipe, which money owed for the intense smoke. as quickly as the pistons seized, a rod snapped and broke for the duration of the case. as quickly as there became a hollow in the case, you misplaced all your oil, it truly is whilst the aladin's lamp (oil mild) got here on. without adequate coolant to maintain the the rest cylinders cool, or adequate oil to lubricate your engine, it have been given so warm wires melted and caught on hearth. Congratulations, you have purely converted your vehicle right into a ship anchor. do no longer pay $250 to have it towed. purely placed on your black gown and supply it a funeral good the place it sits. ensure which you do placed on your strolling footwear.

About 200-225 is normal, and anything over 265 should be something for concern.
