All we see are lights, shiny objects, etc., etc. They must be using some sort of cloaking device to hide themselves fromn our view of their ships. If they are already here on earth, they could be using a hand-held cloaking device to cloak themselves also. What do you think?

Either a cloaking device or the fact they sit deeper in the 4th dimension. Not only can you not see them but you could walk through them at they would be in a different elevation with in the 4th dimension. If there is a race advanced enough to visit earth they will no doubt have the technology and means to alter space around it. They would master the ability of controlling time and space and travelling in 4 dimensions, not just 3.

You're absolutely right. This is also why they prefer to fly during the night- it's tricky to work the invisibility cloak with the sun shining down. Scientists on Earth are trying to come up with an invisibility cloak of their own, but the ones we have right now are not that big and not that good.

Electromagnetism is force that a cloaking device would dampen. Principle of operation for a cloaking device would still theoretically permit detection of EM radiation. And even if you had a full event cloak (total em spectrum cloaking), one could speculate that gravity detection would be possible.

could be an intresting point but if they really have a cloaking device why do they even let the lights show up shouldnt they be hidhing even them to make sure that no one knows about thier existence....well as far as handheld thing is I guess the alien tech must be too advanced...........

There is no scientific evidence that we are being visited by "aliens" and the cloaking device is a Star Trek thing .. get a life.

I would have expected that if "they" have the technology to make themsemselves virtually invisible, they would be able to make themselves completely invisible, in which case we would not be able to see them at all, so they could be all around us. However then they would not be UFOs, they would be Fs. Since they would not be unidentified (we can't not identify something we can't see), and they would no longer be objects!

i would say that this would be probable if they diddnt want to be seen. they have the tech to travel the galaxy (at least). the united states is close to inventing active camo for our troops (this would make the troops virtually invisible) if we havnt already. i would say that their stealth tech is probably alot better than ours. so...yeah why not??
