I am 13 weeks and craving a hot dog! Does anyone know if they are safe to eat while pregnant? Anyone ask a doctor about this?

You know what I was craving the same thing when I first became pregnant, But really what I did find out though which I'm sure you know that its very easy to gain high blood pressure and diabetes while pregnant especially if you have a family history of it or have a few extra pounds on like i do. So what I recommend that when you go for the hot dogs boil them it will help reduce some of the salt in them, because they contain alot of salt. Thats what I did, it's really just to be on the safe side. You dont wanna take in too much salt at one time.

LOL! I had the same craving the other night and I am right around the same time in my pregnancy! Hopefully this will help you out!

Myth 7: Hot dogs are pre-cooked, so it's okay to eat them raw.

Fact: Actually, it's important to always reheat hot dogs until they're steaming hot. Some ready-to-eat foods, such as hot dogs, can become contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes after they have been processed and packaged at the plant. If it's not possible to reheat hot dogs, don't eat them.

Good Luck!

It all depends. There is a nasty little thing called LISTERIA. During pregnancy it is important to be aware of what you put inside your body. Listeria is a type of bacteria that can be found in some contaminated foods. Listeria can cause problems for both you and your baby. Listeria has been found in uncooked meats, uncooked vegetables, unpasteurized milk, foods from unpasteurized milk and processed foods. Listeria is killed by pasteurization and cooking. There is a chance that contamination may occur in ready-to-eat foods such as hot dogs and deli meats because contamination may occur after cooking and before packaging.
Do not eat hot dogs, luncheon meats or deli meats unless they are properly reheated to steaming (or 160 F):
Hope this answers you question and you can now make an informed choice as to whether or not to consume hot dogs during your pregnancy!!!! Good luck.

Hot dogs are perfectly safe to eat while pregnant. Pretty much the only things food and beverage wise to stay away from is anything containing caffiene or alcohol. Good Luck and enjoy your hot dogs.

I read somewhere that hot dogs can screw up your DNA. I know it sounds farfetched, but that's what I heard.

Either way, I have a tough time seeing how a couple of hot dogs are going to be bad for you.

Hot dogs are fine. I ate them all the time while I was preg. Just be careful they make you butt big. Try eating turkey hot dogs, they are better for you.

Yes they are fine. If you get migraine headaches, they can cause them, so just letting you know FYI, they sometimes cause them for me. I try to stay away from them but do eat them occasionally, and I am 30 weeks prego.

I would worry too much about it. As long as you are seeing your doctor regularly and taking the recommended vitamin supplements.
