In a lot of movies, the only times you'll see an African American is if he is the only black guy or if everyone else in the movie is black.

One reason for black characters always dying may be because they have the best postures, falls, or plain death movements. It's funny to watch.

While I doubt if this is a statement of unequivocal fact, if it does happen frequently, it is due to the fact that there are fewer black directors, producers, screenwriters and casting agents in Hollywood that will cast more black actors in films.
That said, I have noticed that Denzel Washington, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Lawrence Fishburne, Forrest Whittaker, Samuel L. Jackson, and Will Smith have had lead roles in many films, and they have also had other black actors as co-stars.

It's been that way for a long time. Usually the black person is killed or has a small role. The "token" black guy. Some examples I can think of off the top of my head: Bernie Mac in "Bad Santa" (though there's still the dwarf), The inventor guy in Terminator 2. Check out this person's blog: http://nappydiatribe.blogspot.com/2006/12/burn-hollywood-burn-few-examples-of.html.
Previous poster mentioned Morgan Freeman and Lawrence Fishburn as a lead actors, but I can't think of any movies where they've played the lead. Denzel was in that kidnapping movie I can't remember the name of.

Flaw for African-Americans? It seems that they take the role, and seem to know what their part in it is.
