it's about my assignments, the paper said "Yao Ming isn't just China's best basketball player. He's the most persuasive symbol of gloalization". What will you say? do yo agree with that?

please answer my question, i really need more sources, and i think YAHOO! answer will do. thanks a bunch!

No. The Chinese economy had already been growing long time before Yao Ming started out in the NBA. In fact, it's the other way around. Yao Ming's popularity enabled the NBA to penetrate the Chinese markets in terms of lucrative American cable television and commercial contracts in China. The economic growth of China is based on industries and consumer technology businesses that doesn't have anything to do with Yao Ming.

Well I am in China and here what I can tell you about the influence of Yaoming in China :
- basket-ball is the number one sport from the middle school to university. So I often get to see Yaoming jersey on players.
- he does a lot of advertisement for the Chinese TV to promote products., He is on many add spots in the streets.

Just like Liuxiang ( who won the 110m dashes at the 2004 olympics ), he is the proof that you can succeed and many people see them as stars and thus try harder to succeed.

That's a bit tricky to say, because China doesn't try to recognize the individual. They would prefer to keep all people equal.
