I would, I actually would prefer a simple cheap band, if not something you get in those quarter machines. I lose things and would get paranoid if it were expensive.

I cannot help it that I am scatter brained. I lose everything, especially important little papers like receipts. I am what I am. Good thing he still loves me :)

Well I'm glad we got that sorted out. Women don't care about diamonds. Cool, now all I need to know is why it is a billion dollar industry and I'm set.

I got a sapphire for my engagement ring - no diamonds here. He knew that I don't care for diamonds, but I love sapphires. I asked him what he's going to do for our diamond anniversary, he said give me a lump of coal. Diamonds are made from coal. If your worried about losing the ring and he's insistant on a diamond, just get an inexpensive one with a 1/4 carat or less -like a chip. You'll still have a diamond that he wants for you. Make sure to have it sized so it fits properly and try never to take it off. If you must put it in the box it came in. I've had my engagement on for 11 years now and wear his and my wedding bands - his last job was lots of outdoor manual labor, gave it to me since rings and all other jewlery were banned on job sites and didn't want to lose it. We paid $20 each for our wedding bands at a jewlery store just 11 years ago. He should honor what you want and be happy he's got you and your love.

yes, I would and have. When my husband and I fell in love and got married, we had nothing but each other. He gave me a plain gold band. We can afford to buy a diamond set and have been able to for quite some time now. He offered my an opportunity. I chose not too. A diamond does not prove love or guarantee 'happily ever after'. If you love someone, nothing can stand in your way of being together, and 29 years together proves that.

I agree with those who say the rock is not important. I would be happy with just a band as well - it's the symbol of it that counts. Love and commitment are supposed to be never ending, as a circle is never ending.

My boyfriend is obsessed with surprising me with a diamond ring - he won't propose to me until he believes the timing is perfect. I've told him i don't care about such material things, but I also respect that he cares enough to stick with tradition.

If things were my way...we would exchange simple bands that symbolized our love and union...nothing elaborate. I don't like that stuff. That really is what matters...and I really actually mean that. The idea of it is so beautiful, to me at least. A nice silver band. Clean, pure, simple, elegant and representing what you share together. I personally think the whole diamond and stuff...I don't like it. But then, I don't like a lot of things and I get grief about it 24/7. What else is new. Thanks for improving my evening, it felt very nice to read what you had to say, be proud of yourself for not being superficial and wanting 'a big rock'. Thanks again.

Yes, why not. What matters most is that he loves me and I should stop being material minded. Maybe he cant afford to buy one with a diamond. Why make him be in debts coz of a diamond. Some even buy gold and yet have other affairs outside

even a 'Touch' is the best to express LOVE then a Ring without a Diamond. Just share your love..everything will be managed automatically.

All the best.

a ring is a ring, so i guess it would depend on who was giving it to me and if i knew it was coming from his heart and a true wish to be together and show a material PROOF of your love.... i cheap ring from someone who loves me and is faithful ect ect ect would mean a million times more to me then the most expensive beautiful ring given by someone who doesnt truelly love me

I would if it came from his heart and he picked it out himself. My hubby gave me a small ring (that he picked out and could afford) when we were first married and promised to upgrade as finances allowed. He has kept his word. Every couple of years he insists on buying me a new ring. To be honest I would have been happy keeping the first one but it makes him so happy to get me one that I go do it for his sake.
