No organised religion can survive unless it is based on rituals. It is very difficult for people at large to follow and pursue abstract ideals for any length of time. The mythology and folklore are woven into religious practices to rouse the faith of the seekers.

Well all the bible is rubbish I agree. Well some of the events did occur like the life of Jesus possibly the crucifixion. Most of it has been rewritten over history though. So I guess in a way it could all be fiction. But some based on a true story haha. And to the person talking about C.S Lewis what is so wrong about an Atheist professing what he believes to be the truth. To say that Christians will never listen is absurd. I was a young Christian and I listened. And I don’t see how just because Lewis became Christian means he was right. That was also at a different time our knowledge of the world around us has advanced. Maybe he would think differently now. Just as great minds like Franklin used to think racism was okay. Thanks to recent people like this dear fellow here professing the truth. Maybe one day we will live in a better world.

Yes, well, I'm sorry that you think that. It is impossible to know that ANYTHING in history has actually occurred, except for what you have personally seen. You take it on faith that Martin Luther was a real person, you know that Shikubu wrote the Tale of Genji, you don't question when someone tells you Julius Caesar led his armies to Britain, or that Cleopatra was the Queen of Egypt. So why not believe that the Buddha exhisted, that Muhammed traveled to Mecca, and that Jesus walked in Jerusalem? There is equally good documentary evidence for the existence of all of these people, and there is a tremendous amount of secondary evidence. People 2000 years ago in Israel did not suffer mass halucinations. If you are refering more specifically to the stories of miracles worked, then yes, it is hard to believe those stories, but I hope that one day you will become more open minded, worry less about being fooled by someone, and try your best to understand.

If you are talking about the bible then you need to look up on your history becuase alot...i mean alot. of the bible is proven historically correct. kind of like things that happened in the old testemant that where proisied about happened hundreds of years later... but if you want a more specific example. In the New testment when jesus is talking to the jews he says that since they did physically nail him to the cross jersulum will be overtaken and every stone will be turned and then jerslum will get it back to keep. well anywise a man named titus stormed jersolum and when he did Gold melted between the cracks of the stones and in the end titus had his man get all the gold between each stone so every stone got over turned. this defeat from titus is marked down in history and is know for truth. so if you look it up and know your history you will find that that the bible is in fact hisorically correct. another example is that the bible says that kings were burried in places kings that at the time we didnt even know existed but people went looking for them where the bible says they would be and sure enough they were their.

That, my friend is the beauty of free will and personal faith. You have no need to believe those stories. Any law requiring that belief is made up by that religion. The original laws of man allowed people to believe what they wished.
Keep believing as you do and remember not to impose your beliefs on others.

Why do most athiests try to start arguments and annoy people with pointless questions? "Hey Xtians! Did you know Jesus isn't real? Blah Blah Blah" Are Christians honestly going to say "No really? Well, gee, I better go read Ayn Rand! Thanks for the info!" No, it's pointless.
C.S. Lewis was an athiest but he switched. Read C.S. Lewis and find how what he found out.

Because they don't believe those stories are fictional.
They could just as equally ask you why a minority of people don't believe in the truth.
Open your mind, man.
