Software is weird. It's volatile and there's no telling what it may do. When I had a dial up ISP, all of a sudden they (peoplepc) started to have problems with their mail servers, which meant I couldn't log on to the web. And then I lost all my contacts and email messages, because I switched over to DSL, and peoplepc couldn't do a thing about it, with all their tech support.
