If you speak Spanish, the best thing to do is search in Yahoo!Mexico or Terra or any web-site in Spanish that services the Mexican market. I would give you a couple but I am changing over from AOL to cable and all my AOL "Favorites" have been wiped out! If you search in Spanish (or can get someone to do it for you) you can find a lots of info on real estate, cities etc. (warning - searching for stuff on the net in Mexico is nowhere near as easy as in the US!)

If you are looking for info on "livability" etc., search in English for expatriate groups living down here.

I live in the D.F. and there are a LOT of great areas in this city for foreigners. Also Guadalajara is great and Cuernavaca. There are also large foreign communities in San Miguel Allende and the Ajijic/Chapala area. Most tourist/resort areas have large expatriate communities as well, such as Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Ixtapa etc.

If you are NOT looking for huge numbers of fellow foreigners to "hob nob" with then there are a wealth of very nice Mexican cities to chose from, many I think would be nicer than Torreon, the list would include: Aguascalientes; Leon; Zacatecas; Guanajuato; Queretaro; Puebla; San Juan del Rio; Tlaxcala; Xalapa; Vera Cruz; Monterrey; Morelia; Cuernavaca as well as dozens of "colonias" here in Mexico City (just to name a few).

Here are a couple of websites (in English I think) which I can remember with some helpful info that might get you started:

www.peoplesguide.com
www.mexonline.com

Torreon and the State of Coahuila have official websites that should answer most of your questions. Ignore the nasty remarks about safety. I am an American of non-Mexican, non-Latino heritage, and I lived in Mexico for 10 years. There was and is a lot less crime there than here, but for some reason a single incident south of the border merits huge media attention here. You're safer in most places in Mexico than in Newark, NJ or Washington, DC. That statement is based on statistics, not sentiment. Good luck.

oftentimes, small cities have issues at allotting water and those person-friendly centers, additionally jobs would not abound. a intense-high quality and small city is Guanajuato, it has intense-high quality climate, besides the undeniable fact that a lot of immigrants pass from there...could be there isn't assorted jobs to get... while you're thinking in sea coast, Cancun could be solid, I see it like the main secure and cleanest coast city, besides the undeniable fact that it is likewise fairly costly. There are different cities in barren area like Torreon or interior the mountains like Monterrey. I won't suggestion you to bypass to crucial and/or southern Mexico, there are too lots issues approximately protection, as an occasion. i % to advise you to bypass with a job already gotten or with sufficient money for it sluggish. Finaly, it relies upon what climate and landscapes you may % to stay in and see. wish this help

where ever it is, check with the local authority first. There are lots of kidnapping/ransom going on. If you have money, you're a target.

Anywhere that there aren't any kidnappers. Of course, that pretty much eliminates Mexico.
