Norma Shearer and "The Women" why not??

I love this movie and plan on staying up to see it on TCM at Eastern time of 0145. I have always adored Norma Shearer and wonder why she isn't the cultural sensation that Joan Crawford and others of this time period are recognized for being to the art of American film.Does anyone else know why Norma Shearer isn't as recognized in film culture today?

I don't know why - I agree, I wonder if she was blacklisted like many actors/actresses of the time..........Perhaps she was related to someone who had been. Speculation but not improbable.
