America is called the melting pot because we let anyone and everyone from all over the world come here and all the vast races, religions, culture beliefs, etc rubs off on everyone else as we may combine some traits of belief's of other cultures as our own. thus a melting pot. a melting pot is a black Jew, a maloto baby, a pizza place owned by a Mexican or a Japanese family who speaks Spanish (which i have seen all)

The melting pot is the theory that if you throw enough people of different races, cultures, religions and such into a small enough space and manage to keep them from killing each other, they'll start to merge all those differences and create something entirely new. This is done through trade of goods, language and knowledge, intermarriage, adoption of habits, and stuff like that. It's kind of outdated for America, which is more multicultural, races and cultures and religions tolerating and living alongside each other without blending into each other. But people frequently employ the concept anyway, so yeah.

Well, I know there is a fondue restaurant called the Melting Pot and it is GOOD...

but to answer your question, I learned really fast that where I live is considered a melting pot. It is where everyone from all over comes and blends in and begin to make something new and diverse. There are always changes therefore changing the mold daily.

Good Luck!

It's not so much a theory as a metaphor. It means that, just like one might melt various items into one large pot to make a recipe, various types of people come to America and blend together to make one great nation.

It refers to the history of America as a mixing of all kinds of races and creeds into one big "Melting Pot" of assimilation, inclusion, and integration of all Peoples. E Plurus Unum: From the Many, come one.
It is our history, it is our saving grace, it is our destiny. It is God's Grace upon this land.
There are those, from the beginning, that wish to divide and conquer, but they always fail here.
Today, you could say that black might hate white might hate latinos, but only a century ago it was you could say Irish hate German hate British immigrants (All whites!). Eventually, we all "Melt together," assimilate, and work toward that same goal any good person has, family, home, loyalty to the nation, and hope for a better future for all mankind and their progeny.
Yes, there's all kinds of trouble stirred up now by enemies of our way of life... It's always been that way, and our patriots have always responded in kind, and always will.
We have a saying, "The tree of Freedom must time to time be refreshed by the blood of Patriots."
It is no theory, it is what makes our country great, and I, personally, am very proud of it. I've sworn not once, but twice, to "Preserve, protect, and defend the US Constitution (And its individualistic rights) against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESIC."
Even at my age, I'd do it a 3rd time, no problem.
With any good luck, I'll get to have a Warrior's Death that way.

in my masters program they brought up this idea of "the salad bowl" to contrast the melting pot. so...instead of "melting" everything together until it all tastes the same, we enjoy all the unique tastes of "the salad bowl." everything goes together, and it's good that way, but all the ingredients separate are also really good. it's just another theory on the US, and what we might consider ourselves to be ...i guess i didn't answer your question...just made a comment. :)

It's a bullsh*t euphimism for America's"welcoming arms"to all cultures.Even though it's true that there are all kinds of people here,we are one of the most racist, discriminatory countries there are.

If you bring enough free people of different cultures together then you get a unique eclectic "taste" which is better than the sum of its parts and evolves into its own evolving culture.
