The death of Stonewall Jackson in 1863.

Unlike what most history books teach, the war had nothing to do with slavery. In fact, slavery was not even an issue until the Union had their butts handed to them for 2 years straight and Lincoln needed to give his troops something to fight for. Lincoln in fact was a war criminal, who rounded up and killed his political opponents. In Missouri, where I live, there were 7 concentration camps. Most of the Confederate high command, including Lee, Longstreet, and Jackson were opposed to slavery.

If Jackson had lived at least until Gettysburg, the Union would have been defeated there and the outcome of the war would have been different. This would have preserved the Consitution as it was written, with the States having more power than the federal government, which is what the war was fought over in the first place.

The outcome of the plague of Justinian 540-590 that claimed the lives of over 100,000,000 in a time where that was a significant chunk of the population as a whole. Perhaps if Humans were brought to the brink of extinction then we would have more respect for this wonderful world we live on. I can just imagine looking outside and sharing some of the same vistas that inhabitants of this land 1000 yrs ago were fortunate enough to lay their eyes upon. The world would be too busy recovering from the drastic drop in population to focus on industry or innovation, thus allowing the Earth as an organism to flourish.

In my own little part of my world it would be March 17, 1971. I was a controller in Vietnam when a cobra and a fixed wing had a mid-air in which 7 people were killed.

On a larger scale I would say the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan.

I would take a squadron of F/A 18 Hornets into the Civil War. They wouldn't even need to shoot. Just the sound of them would simply scare the crap out of southern troops. They'd give up the whole secession thing after a few ground attacks. Nation preserved, fewer Americans dead.

Oh...but I'd make sure to bomb the holy hell out of John Wilkes Boothe's location.

The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. I think things would have been very different with him as President instead of Tricky Dicky . No watergate, no dick cheney and donald rumsfeld, no g gordon liddy, howard hunt , john ehrlichman, bob haldiman, probably no bush 1 and 2.

Abraham & Sarah would honor their marriage, have trust and faith in God's promises, and wait for their promised son Isaac instead of trying to undermine God.

It would have made for a better story and created less riff amongst his decedents whom are as numerous as the stars and are still stewing over this bad mistake. World Peace (smile).

The discovery of America by Columbus.
Then there would not have been slavery, and the killing of the native Americans just for the sake of riches.
