My newborn weighed about 7 pounds and I was told to give her about 2 ounces of breastmilk at a feeding, every 3 hours. A baby won't take that amount immediately after coming home but in a week or two their appetite will quickly increase.

Why are you expressing breast milk in the first place? There is no rule regarding how much. The doctors will say such and such an amount every so many hours but thats an average and a bit of guess work thrown in. I have three children all were breast fed on demand. When they want as much as they want. If they take to much it spills back out again, not enough and they scream so good indicators there. My daughter is 3 months old and starting to crawl, healthy and happy. I also breast fed until they stopped themselves, one son stopped at 1 year they other at 2yrs anyones guess when my girl will stop. Breast milk is natures best food for a baby and the longer you feed the better protection they have from illness...they have your antibodies to help them.

They should be allowed to feed until they are full. A newborn shouldn't have a bottle until around 6 weeks, when breastfeeding is well established.

When you pump, you should time it and see how much you produce. That is what the baby will take.
My friend just had a formula baby and the doctors told her she can take up to 6 ounces.
I breastfed both of my kids and never measured how much I produced, but I always had to supplement with formula with about 2 ounces.
