I had mine for about 3 yrs. The DVD drive is shot so I was considering getting the 360 til I read all those bad reviews. Now I'm thinking I should just fix the shotty part in the console. I already know how to open and remove the part.

Can anyone tell me the name of the DVD drive that I need and where I can get it? (preferably offline. can't trust online sites) and if I need to make any kind of modifications to the new part or If i need to log on and update software or what have you.

If anyone out there has experience with this I'd be very thankful for a step by step tutorial on what I should do.

Thanks!

tons of old Xbox's dumped on the market. Dump the broken one and buy a used one and it will be cheaper than fixing the original.

Check out: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/repairs.htm for some great tutorials. Ebay has some good drives that are plug and play (see the llamma tutorials on how to take apart the xbox).
