In fact if you look from defferent angle, you will find india is not a country of poverty. Here people make them poverty due to their outlook and laziness.Enough work and employment opportunity are here but one has to ready to go for that but due self made standards,we depreive of employment and cry for for betterment.I firm believe that unless we should bring changes in thinking,India will continue run under this so called poverty. Its my view only.

In India there are enough opportunities but people fit for the job are not available. The schools and educational institutions are acting as factories manufacturing degrees and diplomas without enhancing the intrinsic value of the student and employee. The policies of the government is not aiming at alleviating the poverty by providing suitable and commensurate employement to the needy. More effective employement generating education must be developed and implemented for which the politicians are not interested as they will lose their vote banks. But in the present day scenario, the globalisation has improved the perception of the people generally and so they are less inclined to accept what the governors say. Everyone wishes to update their knowledge and capability so that they can outshine and earn better. By this the standard of living is sure to rise. Only the illiterate people will be the odd ones out. But the day is not far off. We will certain see the day on which the employment is given to each and everyone in India and poverty will be a tale of the past.

Well, the guy who first answered the question pretty much said it pretty clearly. However, I think he forgot to mention that the incredible birth rate in India is responsible for causing poverty. There are too many people in India for the country to pull itself out of poverty. Families have to start having less children while the country tries to find an export that Indian's can actually make money off of. They have to have a higher education and consumer rate. More money from the country has to be put into improving the Indian standard of living. India is going through the same evolution that all nations go through. It is just taking India more time get on their feet.

Because people like you spend too much time on Yahoo!Answers.

JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!

I think there are too many people and too few jobs. I recently read an article on the economy in India, the ones who don't get higher education get jobs and the ones just out of college are still trying to find work. Plus, I think that people don't buy as much, so industry doesn't produce a large quantity of goods (in addition to the fact that many goods are produced by individuals, inefficiently). Therefore, fewer workers are needed/used and the cycle continues.

There's an expensive magizine call the Economist that says that you have a history (like Englands) of leftist in government (unions?) that stand in the way of free enterprise. An example, some rich guy says he wants to build and large factory and employ 10,000 people. The response is that he should provide many social services, roads, hospitals, payoffs?, maybe a school and a clinic to get permission to build the factory. He then says, I'll go to China.

population is one of the main problem, people don't know how to use the opportunity. lack of education is also one of the big problem. people never come forward to do any work if they are educated, if we take other counties even college students work of their own to earn their bread. we see a lot of ads in employment papers, lots of wanted coloum, people don't use these properly.uneducation is the main reason for all these cause. taking the problem of population even china is more populated than us they are using their man proper properly. they work hard, they make use even a small opportunity. the only solution to this problem is proper, planed.good education,to every one.

India is doing well as far as earning is concerned but then there are too many mouths to be fed! in the end the individual share for each mouth becomes small. POPULATION is too big in ratio of earning. Secondly uneven distribution of money too is one major cause.

i've been to india for 8 years and i've seen inida's weak point as well as it's strength. india is GREAT in medicine, doctors, travel agencies do really well. but the problem is population. too many poor people and nobody is doing anything about it. not enough jobs for them because they havent got money to send their kids to school. first problem is population. second problem is education. third, low employment. you know most indian people speak good english and they have great culture, great places for tourists to travel. but they just need to know how to make it a traveling country to make a good business.

Your questions is one of the key questions of society. but if you really want to have a solution to this it is near to impossible.
i would like to discuss poverty from economics view. If you see our socities structure is pyramidical. any where in history or currant standings it is most natural stable structure. a flat i.e. leftist view has utter failure every where in long run& thoes who have survived has to change there way of thoughts. The main reson is charity is excption & not a comman way. Every person has desires to get something more than others have. so having some thing more he needs to posses some more resorcess.which are limited in nature. so balancing act is way to poverty.& if we stop someone from getting developed we are stoping process of developement as need is mother of all discoveries. we caanot completely eradicate poverty.
But Indian context we have tremendus absolute poverty which will be eradicated by more employment genration. but to compete the world we have to cut lasbour costs only way is expanding production.which has many constarints.& earlier it was assumed that govt will give jobs but if govt dont have that much money the only way they know is print currancy which has inflationary effect.
If you see developed world poor countries make labour force of them as there imports for small goods are high.so there claim of no poverty or small poverty are not really a valid one.
to eradicate poverty mejor way of economic planning is rests with roots of our society. for this we have to impliment a duel economy model take gandhian model of self sustainable economic units create this units as indipendant but the excess should be sold at international or urban marckets. & a big part of the excess should be used to develope domastic structure of that unit.
urban economy though not self sustainble it will be a international hub for business & it will sustain on imports from rural economy & on it will lend it servicess as well as support to rural economy.
But mejor lucany in this system is administration which is really nessesity in any type of socity.but narrowing down span of it will definately help.

Population is the prime reason...
Followed by the lack of focus on Economy....
Underpaid services... Lack of basics...
Mismangement of the Government as a whole...

If things need to be improved they have to be churned and nurtured right from the roots...
