Core2Duo is way more powerful than any "D" series CPU.

Go to this site where you can choose & compare benchmarks on whatever processors you are interested in :

pentium D did not go off that well, good ideas and planning although did not prove to be that good. i would suggest the E6400, its more efficient than the pentium 820 and will have faster processing speeds dont let the 2.13 with the 2.8 fool you. it is more about the FSB on your motherboard which will determain its speed. Also the core 2 duo has a better CPU multipler so in future if you wanted to overclock it will reach faster speeds that the 820. another note is the E6400 being a CPU means a new motherboard, the motherboards that support the Core2duo CPUs will be better efficient for the future if you were looking at upgrading as the pentium D boards are already becoming extinct from many retail and online stores. hope that helps

Core 2 duo series is the best processor now.. not even any of the AMD processor compete it.. b4 the core 2 duo was launched the amd processors ruled the bench marks.. but now its core 2 duo series heading the throne...
go for core 2 duo E6600, price to performance and more L2 cache... or wait for some more months.. AMD will be releasing its new line ups.. and defintly we can expect more performance...but for time being its core 2 duo all the way... pentium D doesnt fit at all when AMD dual core are in market

Core 2 Duos are the way to go now. They are quick and efficient.
