Just recently I have been trying to figure out what i wanted to when I get older and what I want to go to school for. Would you feel more comfortable with a woman? If you had a choice between a new woman doctor or a old man who gives you the creeps who would you go to? I'm just looking for honest opinions about this due I am trying to make an important decision. Would you trust a woman or a man more when it comes to gynocology and obstetrics?

Ok I'm not saying that about male OB/GYNs however I have had many like that, mind you I realize there are many good male OB/GYNs out there. This is not meant to offend anyone.

I was once told a joke that seeing a male gynecologist was like going to a mechanic that had never driven a car! And I think its true! Male gynecologists can be very intelligent and educated, but they'll never know exactly what it feels like to be on the other side of the table. I had to start going to the gynecologist when I was 15 years old because I had endometriosis, and my mother took me to a female doctor. It made me feel less embarrassed and a little better to know that I was being examined by someone who has to go through the same thing on a regular basis. As far as gaining the respect and trust of patients -- I think that a young, female gynecologist might encourage teenagers and young adults to get routine exams.

I'm actually trying to find the woman gyno that my one aunt goes to. I know that she's really good....my aunt has had 3 kids...lol.

I'd feel more comfortable with a female than a male. In my town there are only men OB/GYN's....and i'm willing to drive to see this lady.

*i still haven't gone to one yet...and i should be seeing one...i'm 20*

Ok, OB/GYN's are not dirty old men.... (its ok, I just thought that was funny)

So if you asked me do I want a female or male OB/GYN, I would say a female just because I would feel more conferable letting a female do what a OB does...

I right now have a female and she is really nice.

Well, after having been sexually assaulted, I don't trust men easily; takes me a long time to start relationships and all. I had to see a man the night it happened and I freaked out and he was mean and yelling at me to calm down... I will never go to a male gynecologist again. Females understand these things so much more.

I have never had a female gyno and I have felt very comfortable with the male doctors I have seen, BUT I have yet to go to a "dirty old man" lol

I have a female ob/gyn and I trust her completely. She is very professional. If that's what you want to do, I say go for it!

I will only go to female OBGYN's. They make me feel more comfortable and I feel like they've been there and can understand me better. I wish there were more women OBGYN's. For a while my office didn't have a female doc. and I chose to use the Nurse practitioner, I trusted her more that the male docs.

Why not ? Many women would feel more comfortable, and if that is what you prefer to be, then go for it because it will be your fulfillment of your dream to help others and feel like you are accomplishing your goal.
