Dyson - The Animal upright(purchased from overstock.com, free shipping). Lots of traffic, big house, stairs, pets. My previous vacs would last about 1 yr. and seemed to lack suction. Have had Dyson x 1 yr & its amazing - no bags, clear canister so you can see what you are getting up off floor. Great suction, great value. BTW my retired mom who is a clean freak--I took my Dyson over last summer to see what it would get up off a seemingly pristine looking new berber carpet--lots. She ordered a Dyson from their web site right away...as she is a clean freak and has been happy too.

I have a Filter Queen, it's getting old now but still works like new. The only problem I have ever had with it was the cord. It wore out from the kids pulling the plug out of the wall by going further than it could reach while vacuuming in a fit of rage. How dare their mother assign chores!

i think Dyson makes the best vacuum-i dont know the model but i can tell you it is bright yellow-this vacuum is awesome-it doesnt require bags it just has a department all of the dirt goes and there is a lever where you hold it over the trashcan and the bottom falls out and you dont ever have to worry about touching dirt-plus it has attachments and if something big gets caught in the canister the vacuum shuts its self off so it doesnt get messed up-i love it!!!

I had a Miele. I loved it. It was a gift. It worked beautifully. I have allergies, and it was the only time I ever could vacuum without having my eyes swell up. Alas, an ex-roommate stole it.

I've also heard good things about Dyson.

Kirby G4, my mom's had it for like 20 years its the best, and my Grandma's got a G3. Or if you want a newer model the G5 or G6 are good too.

I have owned Kenmore's, Hoovers and Dyson - Kenmore vacuums are by far the VERY BEST! I prefer canister vacuums as opposed to the uprights because they are more versatile!

Hoover Wide PAth Preferred. I bought it at Walmart for about $50 around 2 years ago and it's great!

Kirby Makes the best but most expensive one in my opinion. There is a comparison chart on Kirby's website, at least it was there when I bought mine last spring. Our Kirby really sucks!
