I agree with about any book written by James Michener. All of them are fantastic! I especially loved The Covenant...it's about the history of the european colonization of South Africa...but from a fictional perspective. You can also look into Michener's Texas...an eye opener for me. Also try From Sea to Shining Sea (the Lewis and Clark expedition) or Long Knife (George Rogers Clark's colonization of the Ohio River Valley during the French and Indian Wars) both by James Alexander Thom. Also books based on historical fact but fictionalized.

i dont read much anymore long story welding accident regardlesss but how about brian keenes the rising or brian keenes city of the dead? seems like that will keep your students interested, i liked it anyways

try deception point of dan brown or any john grisham books (like "the client"). both are nice books.
