Where can I buy a cingular compatible phone without a contract and without taking the risk of buying used off ebay/craigslist? (PS - I already tried to buy direct from Motorola and they loused up my order so terribly I had to return the junk they sent.) Any suggestions?

I have bought several phones off ebay with good luck! I bought a phone once that was only sold in England, but had great features and worked over here.

The next one I bought was to replace my contract phone that had started acting funny. For 1/4 the price of a new one I was able to use this phone until I wanted to upgrade again. Just letting you know that not all ebay experiences are bad. (Plus you can buy NEW on ebay too!)

Also try going to Letstalk.com and you can purchase phones only from there. Amazon.com also lets you buy without a contract too!

We actually did this 2 weeks ago. You have to call Cingular and see if you can upgrade or not. To get the upgrade you have to renew your contract for 2 more years. The best place to upgrade your phone is Walmart (believe it or not). I just upgraded mine to the LG 500, which has a built in mp3 player, video, and excellent pictures for like $38. If you go through Cingular you will have to wait for the rebate to come in the mail 6-8 weeks later.
