How long after labor do you have to wait before you can resume doing sit ups and other exercises to get back in shape? Especially sit-ups. I heard that there are instances when the abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy and you have to wait a specified amount of time before attempting to do sit-ups again.

Assuming it is a normal vaginal delivery, not a c-section.

I was told 6 weeks, after you have the baby the last thing on your mind will be working out and you will be just too tired anyway.
A nice light way to work out is to take the baby in the pram for heaps of walks. This is a great excuse for you to get out and for the baby to learn about it's surroundings.
It took me a few months to fit into my good jeans again. Now i am back to my normal size after 14 months.i never worked out just ate well, walked alot and kept up my breast feeding even now. If you breast feed the kilos will just fall off.
All the best

Then slide again up the wall and repeat.

I had three normal, vaginal deliveries, and my doctors always told me not to do any strenuous exercising until I went for my 6 weeks checkup. I was advised that walking was fine, but nothing more than that.

You have to wait at least 6 weeks. Your body needs this time to heal.
At your 6 week check up ask your doctor if it's Ok for you to start an exercise routine.

I wasn't able to exercise until 4-6 weeks after my labour. I had a vaginal labour, but I had an episiotomy, and needed stitches, so until after my stitches dissolved, I had to take it easy, until my doctor gave me an okay.

You can go back to doing that just as soon as your Dr gives you the ok. anywheres between 2-8 weeks.
If something is wrong it maybe longer.
