I think I'd enjoy trying dorm life once I get out of high school... but if getting an apartment with a few roomies is cheaper, maybe it'd be better...

depends on if the dorms are co-ed, if your home is near the college, if you're a partier or if you'd be in college to get all A's, etc. Sometimes people choose dorms for security reasons. Having just roomies in an apartment could mean they could be older and you might not have anything in common or you'd have to use your own car to get back and forth (an added expense), or get back and forth in inclement weather. If I were you and because the cost of an education these days is exhorbitant, if you can live at home while schooling that would be your best bet, or stay with relatives who live near a college.

Dorms are cheaper and generally a better idea, but if you are good at taking care of yourself (eat well, clean etc) you may just have a better quality of life living in an apartment.

Dorms can be a better value for you if you get the meal plan with them. Most universities have several places to eat around campus, and they'll save you time and money eating out and cooking in your room. (You can still have a college Ramen diet in your dorm.)

Apartments around college campuses tend to be spendy.

depends on what college you're going to! But I would go towards apartment because it is cheaper! And it depends on where you live also!
