that are televised that lots of people have no idea who they are? Like during one superbowl halftime they had Paul McCartney. Yes granted, lots of people should know who he is, but an ex-coworker of mine didn't know who John Lennon was....so other people 20something or younger might not know him.*i do know who paul mccartney is*

on new year eve shows they have singers like Meat Loaf, and how many there actually have heard of the guy? * i'm a huge fan of him*

this year on the superbowl they have prince, how many teenagers know who he is?

Why do they get people from "back in the day" to sing that some don't know who they are? Granted they get people from today, that people don't know who they are.

I am a advertising student so i have studied some marketing to this effect. First off, the superbowl and new years celebration is not watched mostly by people in their teen's and 20's. I believe that most people watching those events are older. Television organizations know this well. Why would american football want Lindsy Lohan or some other "flavor of the week" to sing the National Anthem when it could have a seasoned professional sing it, especially one who its target demographic adores.
Meat loaf & Prince are not some new singer who nobody will know in a few weeks. They are national and international icons.
besides, people in their 20's arent usually home watching the count down to the new year, they are out partying. or they watch MTV's half time show or something.

If you know about the term DEMOGRAPHICS
then you must realize the vast majority of humans living in North America are easily aged 45 and better.

Therefore, going backwards in time ... to the period of the best possible music (50's/60's/70's) ... thats how entertainers called TRIBUTE ARTISTS continue making Mega-Million$$ ... much to the delight and amusement of the huge DEMOGRAPHIC mentioned above.

Because we can be sure that those classic acts aren't going to expose themselves to the crowd. So If you don't like those acts at halftime, then you can thank Janet Jackson

I was a teenager in the 60's...the greatest time of all for music. Well, the 50's,too....Everly Brothers. I would LOVE to hear groups from that era.....unfortunately, tv caters to the very young....therefore we get to hear garbage.
