Yes I have. If I'm feeling down and want to shake myself of it, I might force myself to think about the good things I have had or still have or will one day have in my life. I remind myself that things will be good only if I make them that way. The reasons for doing it are obviously to keep from wasting time feeling down when there is so much to do. :)

Since kids are known to sense when mommy or daddy are upset, I do it for my kids. They are 21 mo and 6 mo and they don't understand that mommy and daddy are having a rough time right now. I do my best to smile and be happy for them so they don't feel it. It's not their fault that we are having our issues and I don't want my sadness to come off on them. It makes me feel like a bad mother if I do. It also makes it hard for me to go about my day as a stay at home mom if I mope around all day. Makes me not want to do anything and I feel if I do let it get me down, I will start neglecting my responsibilties as a mother. I refuse to let that happen. That's why everyone I know, knows me as always having a smile on my face. I just do my best.

Sometimes when you force to be happy, you do end up being happy (and exhausted).
I do it because as a server, i need to be warm and friendly to those people in order to sell more and get more tips.

Yes, I whore out my happiness.

I work in a nursing home. If I'm in a bad mood, even the most far gone of residents can tell, so being cheerful makes my job easier. It's also the only life they have left, we try to make their days pleasant.

Well,,after finding my brother dead in 2001 & having to tell the rest of my family,,I tuned out for awhile.Usually very mentally stable,,there was a time when I had to make myself get up,,get showered,,get dressed & move forward.I'll never get over the loss but have learned to smile again.

I have...I was working in a place where just about everyone was against me even though I did all my work and then some. No matter what they try to do to me, I try keep a smile on my face. It drove them nuts. Finally I was able to find another job.

Happiness is a myth. We TELL ourselves we are happy, so we think we are. We TELL ourselves we are NOT happy, we believe it. I told myself for years I was happy.
We do it for many reasons. We think happiness is the be all and end all. We see other people, who are convincing themselves they are happy, and think that's what we want... It isn't. It isn't real. It's a myth.

most of us do this , its because we want others around us to be happy , but if this is something you are going thru daily you really need to talk to your dr about it , also peppermints seem to put people in a better mood , my sons teacher uses peppermints because she says you concentrate better and are in a better mood when you have a peppermint in your mouth
