Brand name is the difference above all else.

Compare performance of these two for yourself at :

Advantage of going AMD is that they offer the AM2 (940) CPU socket for the 4200+.
This socket will also accept the upcoming quad core AMD processors should you decide to go that route when the time comes.

Intel mainboards do not offer that luxury.

FYI for some people : the 4200+ beats this particular Intel processor in most all benchmarks.

Ill make it short and simple

AMD= Big Sockets and slow data engine

Intel = Smaller Sockets and fast data engine

Me personaly, i like Intel generaly because their a bigger company and more payroll for research into newer better chips.

But AMD's are known to last, even under a hot load where the chip is overheated.

The Athlon 64 X2... the X2 means its a dual processor within one chip... obviously the better pick...but its really up to which motherbord and support cast you put it together with.

The main difference is that one blows the other away, the AMD being the one that blows the other away. I personally like Intel, and I have a Core 2 Duo, but when it comes to Pentium Ds versus the AMD X2s, it is not even close.
