Is it true that the Big Island of Hawaii weighs as much as the entire Sierra Nevada mountain range???

Actually, that's probably wrong. Think about it. Not only is the mountain range bigger, but the island is made of lava (pumice), a light and porous air-filled rock. The mountains are made of much denser minerals, like granite. So the mountains must weigh more.
