The Romans didn't stretch their "global might" too thin. They fell victim to social degradation, economic downfall due to climate change that ruined their agricultural industry, which was the primary source of revenue for the government, population decrease due to loss of much of their agriculture, and placing barbarians in high ranking positions within their military who had loyalties to many of the northern tribes that eventually sacked Rome.

We are far more likely to lose our place as an economic and military superpower due to overpopulation, and failure to assimilate immigrants into American culture, as well as failing to confront the challenges of globalization. America will cease to be the wealthiest nation in the world probably by the year 2035 replaced by China, but will rival every other nation including India. The key to safeguard our national interests is by forming a new alliance that will replace American involvement in NATO. This alliance should be with Great Britain, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and India. If we do that, then China, even if it wants to pose a serious threat to us, will not be able to. This will secure our wealth a place as leader of the free and democratic world into the foreseeable future.
