What's the difference between conscience and imagination?

I read this question in a writer's magazine (I am a writer) and have been thinking it over. I can look up the definitions in the dictionary, but I don't know how these two things work inside a person's mind.

For example: Your conscience tells you right from wrong, but does your imagination lack those boundaries?

Does your imagination begin with your conscience?

Conscience is what is right or wrong, especially in your own actions. hence it is based on observation and learning from family, society etc., Hence the word "my conscience permits...". Imagining need not necessarily be in the context of right or wrong. Imagining is to take it in a particular and with no concern of right or wrong.

Good question! But in my opinion there are decisively different. Your conscience is something that you learn (behaviors, morals, etc.) and your imagination is just there. Many people imagine doing awful things (killing their boss, having an affair, stealing, etc.) but do not do them. Their conscience only comes in after they reflect on the consequences of an action. When someone performs an action without reflecting on the consequences, they do not (in my opinion) have a good conscience.

As you mentioned, your conscience allows you to distinguish between right and wrong, and to forego the latter in favor of the former.

Imagination has no such boundaries, it is limitless in it's scope. For example, you may WANT to sleep with 1,000 women. Your conscience tells you it's not such a great idea....but your imagination is allowed limitless thought on the subject.
