I go to a highly acclaimed and awarded, but public, high school. I have a friend that goes to an incredibly highly acclaimed private school. Now, I plan to go to Stanford University, and I was wondering if me going to a public school would decrease my chances of acceptance into college, and later into a good job?

I think it will be the grades that will get you accepted into college, not the school you attend, but since you already know what college you want to attend it would not hurt to call them up and ask the admission office. Good Luck and nice to see a young adult thinking so seriously about their future... =)

Not at all cause the admissions office at Stanford has a list of both prestigious private and public high schools. As for your job situation, recruiters never look at your HS gpa or which HS you went to, they only look at your college's years and any other higher education degrees you're planning to take.
Btw, Stanford accepts a lot of students from Lowell HS, a very good public HS in San Francisco.

The only thing I can think of is the friends that you have during your HS years. If you to a bad hs where most of the graduates don't really hit it big in their careers as opposed to a very good prestigious hs where the alumni went on to become politicans, ceos and such, then it's better to attend the latter coz it will help when you need to network later on down the road.

Stanford does have "preferred" schools that is accepts more students from. If your school is highly acclaimed, then you have much better chances than the average person. It shouldn't matter that it is a public school, what matters is the perceived quality of education.

It won't matter which school you attended as much as what you accomplished there. I have seen many people get into "exclusive" colleges with a public education. Status increases your odds somewhat, but in the long run schools look for the determined.

No it shouldnt. The grades your received in high school, the level of courses you took, such as AP classes, your class rank, and GPA should all determine your acceptance into Standford than the school you go to.

Good luck i hope you get in.

properly i kinda accept as true with the the terrific option guy right here yet grades are significant and its from time to time real that in case you get sturdy grades then you truly gets a sturdy interest, yet you could desire to do community centers. occasion: in case you elect to circulate to lowell severe college then you truly might desire to perform a little. My pal have been given immediately 4.0 yet did not get in because of the fact he did no community centers.

No, it does not matter which high school you go too, they are not interested in what town or school you go to or for that matter who you hung out with, they are interested in only your achievements and how well you carry yourself and of course how you keep up with school payments.

I honestly do not see why that would matter, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.
