I am moving to Twentynine Palms, CA next month and was wondering what this was!

A swamp cooler is a type of air conditioner. We had one in Texas when i was a child. It had straw on each side and to keep it cool it needed to have water on the straw so there was water pumped to it. Sometimes we squirted it with the water hose to help it along.
