Then try serving or bartending, it's good tips, and it's already in the same industry.
Find what you want to do, what benefits a job can give you that will make you happy and what do you like to do and then you will make money from it.

When I was 17 I got a job at a dog food mill and went to school at the same time. I worked from 4pm to midnight and the pay was good. I paid my own way from the time I was about 12 years old on. I'm not trying to sound like a braggart but this is the truth. I've worked steady until I had a heart attack and was in a coma for 4 weeks and I am now on disability. If I had to live on the disability alone I would suffer but I bought houses and apartments during the time I worked and they paid off very well. Now I have homes paid for and I collect rent on them and I have sold 3 of them and made very nice profits. I worked for myself for the last 26 years before my heart attack. Lots of work and now I'm retired and loving it. I don't feel a bit bad about being on disability though, I worked for it and paid into it for nearly 50 years. It's my money I'm collecting...

Retail is easier, and generally cleaner than working with food. Check out your local mall--depending on you skills, you may even be able to get an office job in one of the stores.
If you're going to stay in the restaurant industry, try to get into a chain like Red Lobster or Olive Garden, etc. If there is an even better restaurant (for instance, in a hotel) try to get in there.
You appear to want to work days--are you out of school and able to do so? If you really want to bust your butt--keep the night job and get a day job too. You'll be tired as he--, but you'll be putting some money in the bank for that car--or whatever you need that you don't yet have.

That's a tough one - without a college degree, getting more per hour is going to be difficult. Around here, banks are hiring for $10/hour for tellers if you have previous cash handling/customer service experience. If you have any computer/office skills, temping might be an option and will get your foot in the door of various corporations. Universities and state/local government agencies pay well.

At 17, stay in the "server" business. You'll make far more at a restaurant with the tips than say walmart, or McDonalds. You'll also have more fun and be around kids your own age, not to mention the hotties that come in to eat.

What is "good" pay, to you? $10 an hour? $15? $25? If you sell magazine subscriptions, door to door, you could make about $25 an hour, if you are REALLY good!
