I have been out of school for just over a year, and I can not find a job. I have a degree in Economics and business admin. I have applied to 100s of jobs on 100s of websites. I have even applied to jobs overseas, and I have several different resumes. Does anyone know how they found their job? Or does anyone need my degree in their department?

I started my own business. With your degree that shouldn't be a problem. Then, you're always employed.

my friend got her job by working at the same place where her mother did (her mother put in a good word for her). I got my first job thru my dad first asking his employer about it and bringing an application home to me. I got the next job (in the same type company but in another state) by knowing that company worked with the company I used to work for and they had contacts there who knew my bosses and my bosses in turn advised how I worked on the job. Thereafter I applied at an employment agency that did "perm jobs". Years later I went thru "temp to perm employment agencies" and stayed within three main specialty type employers (banks, construction offices, lawyers).

Economics is a superb field. Since they say in the US that everyone who wants a job already has one, they also say that there are many jobs out there going unfilled....so try a headhunter or the agencies, or even apply at your state office for any government type offices (state, city, county, federal), and also go to job fairs in your area. Get yourself some good references for your resume (ask them first if you could use their name and tell them exactly what kind of job you're applying for).

I have been working for 20 years. And my advice may be hard to accept but here it is: NEVER look for a job. Let the job look for you. Network. Get in touch with everyone that you know PERSONALLY, even if they don't work in your field. Tell them you need a job really BAD! Sending out resumes blindly never works. If you are going to send out resumes, do one or both of the following: (a) MEET with the people who are going to be your supervisors. Don't tell them you are looking for a job. Just talk to them nicely and let them et a good impression of you. (b) If you cannot do the first step, RESEARCH the company you are writing to, and tell them why you want a job in THAT Company. Preferably, do (a) AND (b).

I found my job by searching the net. Check out my profile and email me since Yahoo doesn't like for us to relay links. You might like to build a business why you are looking for that perfect job in your field. Good Luck!

I asked at Tower records when I couldnb't get a job at a radio station. My knowledge was enough to get me hired (and I replaced a woman named Hockenberry, who had quit in a huff)
