My friend borrowed my pillows and then returned them smelling like cigarette smoke. What's the cheapest way to clean out the awful odor?? I mean, I sleep on these pillows.. plus they're decorative so it's not like I can replace them. Two of the pillows I can take out of their covers, the other two are stuffed without entry. How do I wash the actual pillows? I know how to wash the covers....

Try mixing one part vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle. Vinegar is a great odor absorber.

I don't know if the pillows are, for some reason, too fragile; but I wash throw pillows and bed pillows in the washer on the gentle cycle (and, depending on the material of the pillow and whether any color-running could occur, sometimes with cold water).

When they're done lay them out to dry with as little pillow surface as possible touching whatever you lay them on. Turn them after half a day to allow other parts of the pillow to dry. Push them into better shape with your hands once they're dry.

Or

If you don't want to risk the washer you can use a mild soap, a sponge, and suds the surface of the pillows. Clean off the soap by repeatedly washing the surface with plain water.

Wash the pillow cases. Put the pillows on top of towels and place them on your counters in your bathroom. Turn on only hot water all the way on in your bath. Turn the shower nozzle on. Leave bathroom and put a towel outside of door on floor to prevent steam from leaving room, After about 30-40minutes quickly go into bathroom and close door behind you. Turn off water. Quickly leave the bathroom leaving your pillows in there. Put your towel back on the floor outside the bathroom door so that no steam can escape. The next morning open up bathroom and take your pillows out which will have no cigarette smell left. This works for clothing too, Good luck.

Need to go to your local janitorial supply store and buy an odor release solution. This is the only thing that will pull out the smell. everything else will just cover it up. Follow the label directions. Mist all over the pillows, depending on how much smoke, you might need to do a second treatment.

Ah geez was that funny! Thanks for the laugh, oh my word; I'm still laughing. I haven't been taken advantage by my pillow yet but sometimes it does seem like it's looking at me funny. I wonder if that's where all my cigarettes are going! Foolish pillow, smoking at it's age, I better replace it before something does happen!

The ones u can`t wash, try spraying with the product--Breeze, u must mist until the material is slightly damp, it might help. U can also hang them outdoors on a breezy day, fasten to a line with clothespins and let air out. Last solution, buy a home dry cleaning kit and do them in ur dryer.

throw in the dryer with 10 sheets of the blue downy on air fluff.

I clean my dads house once a week and he has nasty dogs. That is what I do to his.

Leave them outside in the sun on the clothes line for a day or two especially on a good windy day.

Instead of washing them yourself, you could get them dry cleaned! That takes care of odors and perhaps would be safer then doing it yourself. Not too exp. either!
